ABOUT ME

I have always had the desire to create art and to craft decorative objects but for much of the time work got in the way. Now that I have retired to a lovely location in rural Herefordshire, I am pursuing that desire, painting whatever takes my fancy. My medium is soft pastels.
I took up pastels around 6 years ago, and have taken lessons online and in person with various artists to help me acquire skills. I have also worked through a number of helpful books. Most effective of all has been regular practice.
I did not set out to produce works of art for sale, but over the years friends and acquaintances have approached me for pictures, and more recently I have sold works at the H.Art Herefordshire art trail. I now have so many pictures that I feel the need to find them new homes. So I have produced this website to showcase my works and also to act as a shop window should anyone want to purchase a picture. If you choose to purchase a picture from me, you will own an original work of art, painted to the best of my technical skills.
sharing the joy of pastels
For me, the joy of pastels is a tangible one—holding a stick of pure pigment and gliding it across a surface to see the immediate, vibrant result. This medium, which many artists are now embracing as their primary or even sole form of expression, has been transformed by a wonderful diversity of pastels and innovative surfaces. These new materials allow for a wider variety of mark-making and the ability to build rich, layered compositions.
My own journey with pastels is rooted in community. I am a member of numerous pastel-related facebook groups, including as the Unison Colour Soft Pastelling Community, Pastel Secrets and The Pastel Palette.
I am also an associate member of the European Pastel Guild, a group founded in 2009 to strengthen connections among pastel artists across Europe and beyond. The Guild’s “Get Dusty” Competition and the judges’ comments are a source of inspiration for me. In 2025, I joined its board, and I am excited to help further its success and assist with the administration of its members’ Facebook group. I invite you to explore my gallery to see the rich textures and colours of my work, and I hope my passion for this beautiful medium inspires you.
